TESTIMONIALS

First-hand student successes

The resources available at Empowerly are very helpful, but my favorite part about this program is the honesty that everyone in this program has. My counselor is amazing at picking apart her students and finding their strengths that colleges will fight for. She will tell you when an essay is not working well or where your application is lacking, but when she compliments your work, you know that she genuinely means it…honesty like hers is what will get students into competitive universities.

– Jake, former Empowerly student

Empowerly counseling was a very personal experience where I was encouraged to pursue my interests. If you’re wondering about how effective the process is, I would say that I accomplished more than I expected and got into schools that would have been out of my reach otherwise.

Milan’s story

Milan always had a creative mind for problem-solving. During the summer before his sophomore year, his mother asked him to help bring heavy groceries from the garage, and he wondered how he could move them more quickly and efficiently. He researched, designed, and assembled an autonomous robot from scratch using materials around his house, including a hoverboard and commercial off-the-shelf electronic products. The robot he created has become a helpful addition to mundane household tasks.

After joining Empowerly, with the help of his counselor, Milan was able to bridge the connections between autonomous vehicles, software development, and his concerns about food supplies with the world’s growing population. Milan applied and was accepted as an intern with the Autonomy Testbed for Exploration Research and Simulation (OceanWATERS) software team with NASA during the summer before his senior year.

He spent the semester working with engineers, developing new simulations that could help astronauts use autonomous landers on a planet like Mars or aid farmers in avoiding injury by having them use robots to perform potentially dangerous tasks.

Milan’s dedication to making our world more manageable earned him an acceptance to Rice University, one of his dream schools.

Sami’s story

Sami was a sophomore attending a public high school in California, when she discovered her writing and public speaking interests. During the earlier years of high school, she engaged with several opportunities to explore a wide range of extracurricular activities.

She was the founder and co-president of a writing, art, and photography club and a Toastmaster Gavel club. She was also an editor of her school newspaper, which helped her develop communication and leadership skills.

And even with these accomplishments, she still felt she was not developing a focused passion. In her junior year, after seeing years of racial inequities and discrimination at her high school, Sami focused on making a change. Sami wanted to lead a student walkout. She knew it would be a lot of work, but she worked with like-minded groups over several days to create posters, slogans, and banners to help generate energy.

Sami recruited a team of student contributors and worked tirelessly to get the word out about the movement. By the end of the 3rd day, she stood in front of over 1,000 students with a microphone and a message of change. Soon after, the transformation of her high school began with the administration taking action and being accountable for student voices.

Sami’s commitment to activism led her to be recognized by her county. She was awarded a spot on the Teen Council to promote teen involvement in local issues. Sami is grateful for the recognition, but she is even more proud of the work that she has done to make a difference in her community.

Together, Sami and her counselor leveraged her passion for writing, public speaking, and activism to discover her drive for political science. As a team, they crafted an application strategy that ensured she was a strong candidate for admission to the University of California, Berkeley. She is confident she will be a valuable asset to the UC Berkeley community.

Caden's story

Caden, a driven student seeking a transfer from the University of Florida, approached Empowerly for guidance on his application to Northwestern University. Together, Caden and his counselor meticulously crafted his transfer application, refining personal statements and securing impactful recommendation letters. The moment Caden received his acceptance letter was one of pure joy, celebrating the culmination of his hard work. Now, he eagerly looks forward to immersing himself in Northwestern’s vibrant intellectual community, ready to embrace the opportunities for growth and make a lasting impact.

Witnessing Caden’s journey from aspiration to acceptance at Northwestern University filled the Empowerly team with pride and joy. Our collaborative efforts in constructing a compelling application paved the way for his success. Caden’s dedication, combined with our meticulous attention to detail, resulted in a remarkable achievement.

As he prepares to embark on this new chapter, we have no doubt that Caden will continue to excel, leaving an indelible mark on Northwestern’s campus and embracing the countless opportunities that lie ahead.
