YouTube is somewhat down, widespread technical issue confirmed [UPDATE: Fixed]

The power of the Internet manifests itself in the way that most people consume not only entertainment, but even news. From social networks to streaming video, Internet services have become the most sought after solutions today, especially in times of calamities and blockades. You can definitely say how these services have become so ingrained in our lives when people start to complain out loud or even panic when they fall, like what is currently happening with YouTube.

Several users around the world have started asking whether YouTube is down or not. It is not uncommon for some people in some regions to have brief connectivity problems, sometimes confined to their locality. When it goes global, however, something starts to feel wrong.

Unfortunately, YouTube’s Twitter support account confirms what many feared. YouTube is not entirely down, but there are almost random errors occurring by users everywhere. YouTube is already on the case and promises to update the situation.

If you’re having trouble watching videos on YouTube right now, you’re not alone – our team is aware of the issue and working on a fix. We’ll follow up here with any updates.

That was about 50 minutes ago when this article was written, which could be an eternity for the generation created by the Internet. There will naturally be some theories as to the cause of the disruption, from an increase in the number of users stressing the servers to some accidental change sent to the YouTube backend. This would not be the first time that such things would happen and this year has seen many of Google’s services face similar problems.

The situation or, more precisely, the Internet’s reaction to such interruptions is almost revealing of the culture in which we live. It not only shows how we have become indebted to these services, but it must also pressure providers to ensure the stability of these services, which sometimes become the only source of news and information during emergencies and disasters.

UPDATE: YouTube has announced that all issues with its devices and services have been fixed. It is not news that there is no explanation as to why and we will just have to shelve this along with the rest of the universe’s unsolved mysteries.
