Like any other tool, the Internet can be used for good or for evil. It enabled smaller voices to be heard, thanks to social platforms and services, for example, but it also encouraged many to act more recklessly in order to gain temporary prestige. People are known to do crazy stunts just to go viral for a few minutes, even if it means putting their lives at risk. A more recent viral video may not be as fatal, but blowing substances into a computer like an Xbox Series X is also not exactly the safest thing.
Microsoft’s latest console was launched just a few days ago and is already getting more attention than the company probably expected. Of course, it is the most powerful Xbox thanks to its powerful components. With great power comes great pressure, of course, and some have turned to Interwebs to claim that Microsoft has not done its homework.
Videos of the Xbox Series X spewing smoke from alleged overheating began to circulate over the Internet. Naturally, this caused some concern for current and future console owners, but an unofficial Xbox Studio Twitter account classified these videos as fake. Apparently, just someone blowing steam into the console to get the effect.
Almost ironically, the revelation of how the “trick” worked resulted in even more people experiencing this Xbox Vape DIY. The situation may have gone completely out of control when the Xbox finally made an official statement: Don’t blow steam out of the console.
This seemingly harmless joke isn’t exactly harmless, as it introduces tiny particles that can damage the console and actually make it smoke. The Xbox Series X’s unique design, especially its superior ventilation, is almost too perfect for such pranks, so expect some more viral fakes in the future.
