TikTok says that freezing this fruit makes it “taste like ice cream” (and no, it’s not banana)

This one-ingredient dessert is about to become your main choice.

Frozen blueberries and grapes have been considered “nature popsicles” by many healthy eaters in the past, and frozen bananas are mixed in a creamy serving consistency to be the star of thousands of nice cream recipes.

But TikTok – home to countless cleaning tips, dance crazes, life tricks and dietary trends – is inspiring us to expand our horizons of frozen fruit desserts.

We’re not sure which TikTok-er originally shared this idea, but a quick clip from Nicole Modic, creator of the food blog Kale Junkie, is certainly causing waves. It is also absolutely inspiring to pick up a bag of Cuties the next time we fill our shopping carts!

“You may not know this, but frozen tangerines taste like ice cream,” she says in the TikTok video, which has received more than 82,000 ❤️s and 660 comments.

It’s as easy as one, two, three:

  1. Freeze the mandarins overnight.
  2. Allow them to thaw at room temperature for 2 hours.
  3. Peel and “get ready to be surprised”, adds Modic.

Another TikTok user, @athomewithshannon, says they are perfect for school lunch – or mid-morning snacks for children (or children at heart).

We can also imagine packing them for a spring picnic, summer trip or a day at the beach as a way to cool off, get some extra vitamin C and cure our cravings in a naturally sweetened way.

Oranges, grapefruits and other types of citrus fruits would probably also work in terms of texture, only with a slightly stronger flavor and a different defrost time due to the thickness of the peel.

If cauliflower can be steak, hummus can taste like brownie dough and tangerine can be ice cream, so you can do anything you want, right ?! So stock up a handful of tangerines, freeze half for a tasty fruit “ice cream” and then put the rest of your fruit to great use on a showy Clementine Upside-Down Cake, impressive beet, orange and onion salads purple or a vibrant rainbow Ice cream cake.
