Stardew Valley 1.5 update gets a surprise release on PC

Stardew Valley fans were in for a really good surprise today when developer Eric “ConcernedApe” Barone released the game’s 1.5 version update on Steam. The launch is here with a look at the new beach farm and a lot of new end-of-game content, complete with spoiler-free patch notes for those who wish to go to the update as intact as possible. With everything added, Barone says this is the biggest content update he has ever sent to Stardew Valley.

That says a lot when one of the previous updates added multiplayer to the game, but we will have to take your word for it, as this round of patch notes does not list all new additions individually. Instead, the patch notes just give us a vague idea of what to expect, telling us that there are “new people to meet” and “new goals” to achieve, among other things.

Previously, Barone shared details about two major additions: the beach farm and advanced game options that returning players can activate to shake things up a bit. While before we only had a tip describing the beach farm, now Barone has shared a complete picture of it, which you can see below.

What else is there to expect? Split-screen cooperative mode is one of the main additions to this update, which works in almost exactly the same way as online multiplayer, but allows up to four people to play on the same machine locally. Barone’s patch notes say that there are also “many new items” included in this update; residential renovations, which are available after a complete upgrade of your home; and new character events. There are up to nine new music tracks, and if you already know the excellent soundtrack of Stardew Valley, you know that these are very exciting additions.

Barone even says in the patch notes that there is “much more” that he “can’t stand to spoil”, so it looks like Stardew Valley fans will have to dive in and find out what’s new for themselves. Update 1.5 is available today on the PC and will be released early next year on consoles with no current timeline for mobile devices. We’ll let you know when more is revealed, but for now, dive in and see what’s new in the Valley.
