Sony made it clear that it would not allow in-store sales (in-store sales) of the PS5 on launch day. Now that Walmart has announced that it will have inventory – and Target too – things are getting complicated. If you are looking for a PlayStation 5, what should you do?
According to Sony’s announcement, “No units will be available in the store for purchase on launch day” – this is November 12th or 19th, depending on the region. Sony specifically called people waiting to wait at the door, demanding a console: “Please do not plan to camp or queue at your local dealer on launch day in the hope of finding a PS5 console to purchase.”
Eventually, you will be able to buy a PlayStation 5 at your local physical store, but it will not be as before. The PlayStation 5 list with Target specifically says: Available only with Drive Up or Order Pickup without contact. Target also noted that “quantities are limited, order online immediately”.
Walmart revealed that it would be surprising with the online launch of the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Digital Edition. They announced that the consoles will be “online at 12 noon, 3 pm, 6 pm, 9 pm ET.” Pacific hours are 9 am, noon, 3 pm and 6 pm.
You’ll also want to take a look at the NewEgg page, where the console’s release won’t be staggered – from what they’ve said so far. If you are looking for the PlayStation 5 or PlayStation 5 Digital Edition on NewEgg, play it at 12:00 EST (noon). It is 11 am, central time, 9 am, Pacific time. If you go to NewEgg, you are likely to end up buying a package (with more than one controller and Sackboy: A Big Adventure and Spider-Man: Miles Morales Launch Edition.)
UPDATE: There will be a “very limited number” of PlayStation 5 console packages available for sale with GameStop online tonight (11th). This is as specific as they have achieved so far. It is important to note that this does NOT include the availability of the physical store. You won’t benefit from camping in front of your local GameStop – now more than ever.
