Samsung is ready to take on Apple’s AirTags with the launch of its SmartTag + in the United States. This new tracking accessory is designed to attach to objects you may lose, including your keys, purse and wallet. The trackers feature ultra-wideband technology and Bluetooth LE combined with AR guidance for the missing item.
The Samsung SmartTag + is a diamond-shaped tracking accessory that features a small hole through which it is possible to attach a keychain or a strap. When used with a smartphone that supports UWB (the Galaxy S21 + and Ultra, for example), users can use the AR Finder feature to obtain visual indicators on the screen pointing to the location of their object.
Likewise, the tag can emit a loud alarm to help the user locate it. Assuming you are too far away for this option, the location of the item will also be visible on a map through the combination of Bluetooth LE and Samsung’s SmartThings Find network, which is made up of Galaxy device owners who choose to help crowdsource the location of tracked items.
In addition, SmartTag + tracker also supports several functions that the user can configure in the SmartThings application. For example, a tracker can also be used to control a light so that when you press its button, the light is turned off. Obviously, the object you want to control will need to be a connected device with SmartThings support.
Customers in the United States can now purchase the SmartTag + tracker from Samsung and Amazon for $ 39.99, an increase of $ 10 over the price of their regular SmartTag tracking device, which works in a similar way but only has connectivity Bluetooth.
