It is now common news that Huawei is already working on a successor to its first folding smartphone, the Mate X. Its release date has been kept confidential, but a recent leak has also revealed it.
The leak comes from a notable Twitter @ Rodent950 informant, who claims that the Huawei Mate X2 will be released sometime during the third quarter of 2020. He says the successor will be more similar to the Galaxy Fold, which means it will probably double. inwards rather than outwards. It may also have a smaller screen outside for notifications, selfies, audio playback shortcuts, etc.
On the other hand, it could also be a shell design, as a recently unveiled patent revealed a mysterious Huawei folding phone that has a smaller screen outside. The fact that Samsung is working on a shell style also only adds to the assumption.
Huawei Mate XS
The informant adds that the renewed Huawei Mate X nicknamed Mate XS will appear at MWC 2020 (February) or in March. It will have an improved hinge design, a more durable display and will feature the sophisticated Hisilicon Kirin 990 5G SoC.
It is unclear how Huawei plans to bring improvements to the display or hinge, but it is a very welcome action considering what was the initial release of Galaxy Fold.
