How to Make a DIY Avocado Hair Smoothie Like Kourtney Kardashian

Kourt’s hair stylist reveals the secret to uber-shiny locks.

If you are lucky enough to be Kourtney Kardashian, you have a hairdresser to do your hair “practically every day”. But thanks to a new video on his website with hair stylist and genius Andrew Fitzsimonns, at least we have the secret of his shiny streaks. And no, it’s not taking blue gum supplements like the rest of the Kardashian sisters. It is a DIY hair smoothie.

Fitzsimonns explains that he was inspired to create a ‘hair smoothie’ after seeing Kourt make his avocado smoothies daily. (She’s also a fan of avocado pudding, according to her post about what she eats before and after morning workouts.) Good news: His recipe doesn’t require ghee or other hard-to-get ingredients. The ‘hair smoothie’ (also known as a hair mask) requires a ton of avocado, which Fitzsimons describes as a natural detangler because it coats the hair with a thin oil, making it easier to comb and moisturizing and healing the dry scalp. It also requires lemon, which he explains is antibacterial and a dandruff remedy. Olive oil serves as a natural conditioner, ideal for overprocessed hair and actually protects your hair from heat if you are using a curling iron or straightener every day, he says. Finally, the recipe calls for honey that is said to strengthen the hair follicle (can also be used as a hair bleach and natural hair spray) and some essential oil so you don’t “smell like a cobb salad”. Here’s the recipe:

  • 1 1/2 avocados
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • 1/2 lemon, squeezed
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • Lavender or orange essential oil

Mix for 10-30 seconds until smooth and apply to hair from root to tip. Leave for 45 minutes covered with a shower cap, then rinse and you’re done: super bright locks. (Feeling adventurous?
