The UK has reached another milestone of vaccination COVID-19 with more than half the population having received at least one injection, Health Secretary Matt Hancock said on Saturday.
Official data show that a total of 33.51 million people in the UK received the first dose, with more than 12 million people receiving both.
“It’s a brilliant milestone,” said Hancock in a clip on Twitter.
The UK’s official population is 66.8 million, said the Department of Health and Social Assistance.
The launch of the vaccine in Britain, which ran ahead of the countries of the European Union, means that it is on its way to ease blockade measures and reopen the economy according to its plan.
“This vaccination program is our way out of this pandemic,” added Hancock.
Officials also reported another 2,061 cases of coronavirus and 32 deaths in 28 days after a positive test on Saturday.
