Dungeons & Dragons in Magic The Gathering card set 2021 and MTG in DnD 2016

Today, the folks at Wizards of the Coast have finally combined two of their biggest brands. Or “finally” if we are counting only suitable sets of Magic cards. The card set is an official standard black card set called Adventures in the Forgotten Realms. But wait, you may be saying, hasn’t the Magic: The Gathering universe come across Dungeons & Dragons before? The answer is yes, yes.

This new set, Magic: The Gathering: Dungeons & Dragons: Adventures in the Forgotten Realms, may well have the longest Magic card set title since the beginning of MTG. What’s more, this set will replace “next year’s basic set.” This was confirmed by Mark Rosewater, chief designer of Magic: The Gathering on his Tumblr blog. There will be NO Nucleus defined in the year 2021.

The new Dungeons & Dragons set “is leaving the space that sets of cores normally fill,” said Rosewater. “I cannot speak for the future.” This may mean that we will never see another main set for Magic The Gathering, or it may mean that the Dungeons & Dragons sets will be released every year, or every two years from now – we don’t know yet!

Some fans are undecided about this situation, others are very excited. As one might expect, the reactions are ALL OVER the board with this one.

Some fans resorted to the memories of the original CCG “Spellfire: Master the Magic” created by TSR, Inc. in 1994. The content of this card game existed in the universe of Dungeons & Dragons, but it did not last as long as the still-active Magic The Gathering. Magic The Gathering was first shown to the public on July 13, 1993 at the Origins Game Fair.

In any case, the two must now join their homes – AGAIN. TO BE CLEAR, the kingdoms have crossed before! This is just the new beginning! Take a look at the Dungeons & Dragons books / guides “Magic: The Gathering: Plane Shift: Zendikar” and “The Art of Magic: The Gathering – Zendikar”. Both were launched in 2016. This crossover has been under construction for years!

We will see Magic: The Gathering: Dungeons & Dragons: Adventures in the Forgotten Realms released in the year 2021. If you follow the general schedule of releases of basic sets in the last half decade, we will probably see this set of D&D released around July 2021.
