It’s a pitiful sight, even from the skies of Microsoft Flight Simulator
The huge freighter Ever Given has been stuck in the Suez Canal for almost a week, captivating the internet and frustrating the teams responsible for evicting it and the governments hardest hit by the closure of the maritime trade route.
The ship (and its trademark “Evergreen” letters painted on the side) has become so iconic, in fact, that it has become a destination within Microsoft Flight Simulator, at least for a virtual pilot who appears to have created a mod that lays the ground. ship within the game’s virtual Earth, via GeekWire.
Twitter user Mat Velloso shared a TikTok video, originally captured and uploaded by user “donut_enforcement”, showing the cargo ship’s overflight for compelling pilot narration while the boat is trapped between the banks of the channel. The scene looks incredibly realistic, which is a testament to the quality of the mod and also the demanding visuals of Microsoft Flight Simulator.
Of course, there is nothing to stop developer Asobo from updating the game with the latest satellite imagery to include the ship for all players – many of these photos were taken in the past six days. But, considering that the game originates its images from Bing Maps and is not always updated in a timely manner, this means that your game will not have Always Given Dice on it, unless you are able to modify it as in the video above.
At the moment, there is no concrete timetable for freeing the ship from its unfortunate angled situation, so it is certainly possible.
