Return to Genndy Tartakovsky’s 2D animated Clone Wars
Disney Plus is receiving a huge stream of classic Star Wars movies and programs in the newly added “Star Wars Vintage Collection”, which brings retro Star Wars content to streaming.
The most notable addition is the animated short The Story of the Faithful Wookiee – which famously saw the introduction of fan favorite character Boba Fett as part of the infamous Star Wars Holiday Special, which aired in 1978 and was never released again. The short had already seen the light of day as an Easter egg in the 2011 Blu-ray box of the first six Star Wars films, but the debut of Disney Plus marks the broadest release of The Story of the Faithful Wookiee so far .
It is also the first time that a special Star Wars holiday piece has been widely released since the original screening in 1978. Fans who wait for the rest should not be hopeful: the company confirmed to io9 that there are no plans to release more of the widely criticized especially in the future.
Also recently added to Disney Plus is Genndy Tartakovsky’s 2D animation series Clone Wars, which aired on Cartoon Network in 2003. The stylized series was the first Star Wars program to try to fill in the gaps in the titular conflict between the Episode II and Episode III. something that the CGI animated Clone Wars show would expand in the future. Unlike the more modern series (which is included in Disney’s current canonical plot, along with its successors Rebels and the upcoming Bad Batch), Tartakovsky’s program is no longer considered part of the “official” timeline; That said, elements that the show introduced, like the cyborg villain General Grievous, were included in other Star Wars media.
Finally, the collection adds a number of sold-out 80s shows and movies, including the live-action TV movies Caravan of Courage: An Ewok Adventure and Ewoks: The Battle for Endor, along with the Ewoks cartoon – none of which are easily available since they were launched on VHS. In addition, the animated series Star Wars: Droids is planned to arrive on Disney Plus later this year.
The complete list of newly added programs and films available for broadcast today is as follows:
- Caravan of Courage: An Ewok Adventure
