The COVID-19 pandemic changed the development schedules for many of the upcoming games, and Arkane’s Deathloop is no exception. The game has undergone some changes in release dates over the past year and, unfortunately, is being postponed again today. When we last heard from Arkane about the release of Deathloop, the studio was aiming for a release date of May 21, 2021, but now that has been changed to September.
Specifically, in a statement posted on Twitter, Arkane said he now targets the September 14, 2021 release for PlayStation 5 and PC, delaying the game by about four months. “We decided to postpone the launch of Deathloop until September 14, 2021,” says Arkane’s statement. “We are committed to quality and preserving our team’s ambitions for Deathloop, ensuring the health and safety of everyone at Arkane. We will use that extra time to accomplish our goal: to create a fun, stylish and mind-blowing multiplayer experience. “
Arkane’s statement continues with an apology, saying: “We apologize for the long wait and thank you all for your passion and enthusiasm. It is the fuel that fuels our creativity and our hard work. We can’t wait to show more Deathloop soon. ! ”
Deathloop is in an interesting location, as it is a PlayStation 5 exclusive being developed by a studio that is now part of Microsoft after the company’s acquisition of ZeniMax Media earlier this year. Microsoft has indicated that it will honor the exclusive deals that ZeniMax and its subsidiaries made prior to the acquisition, so Deathloop remains an exclusive timed PS5 console, despite being technically owned by Microsoft.
Originally, Deathloop was scheduled to be released in late 2020 before being postponed to the second quarter of 2021, with Arkane finally announcing the release date on May 21, 2021. Hopefully, this new release date in September is the last , but regardless, we’ll be looking for more information on Deathloop.
