Most — but not all — American colleges and universities use what is called a holistic admissions process. Holistic admissions help to decide which students to accept. The trend toward using this type of admissions review began only around 15 years ago; still, it has been gaining ground since then. What exactly changed? What do holistic admissions mean?<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

The goal of this method is to assess each applicant as a whole; essentially, instead of just a collection of grades and test scores. Of course, these grades and tests are still vital parts of the application! However, most universities want to see beyond this snapshot. These evaluations take a better look at the whole picture of who applicants are.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What do holistic admissions evaluate?<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

Factors that weigh into holistic admissions span character traits and how they present on the application.  Traits like this are not immediately revealed through your grades, courses, scores, and so on. These include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
