While not as iconic as Apple’s AirPods, Samsung’s rival headsets have found comfortable places among the first in the market for true wireless stereo or TWS headphones. Its latest and greatest Galaxy Buds Pro, however, may not be exactly the most affordable either. In an already congested market, Samsung may always be looking for its next step and that next one may be called Galaxy Buds 2, perhaps suggesting a new direction for Samsung’s “audible”.
The name may be a little surprising considering that there are already about four Galaxy Buds on the market. Instead of following the generation numbers, however, Samsung decided to follow a slightly more confusing way of adding words. So we have Galaxy Buds, Galaxy Buds Plus, Galaxy Buds Pro and the often overlooked Galaxy Buds Live.
In the typical Samsung style, there is always room for more. Android Police recently dissected the Galaxy Wearable app, the only app the company uses for its smartwatches, fitness trackers and, of course, headphones. See, the site found references to a “Galaxy Buds2”, a name that had never been used in public before.
According to sources, this is a completely new device, codenamed “berry”, rather than just a nickname for an existing product. Unfortunately, the trail ends there with no clue as to what the headphones would bring to the table.
Judging by name only, this can be considered a “true” successor to the first generation Galaxy Buds and can even be seen as a “break” with what came before it. It can also suggest a return at a more affordable price, something that some Samsung fans may have missed a lot since the Galaxy Buds Pro debuted.
